Time to Split

What? Oh, no, I'm not going anywhere. But I have come to a decision about my blogging habits. This blog is a lot of fun and I truly enjoy interacting with all the lovely writer people I've met through the Write Campaign, but having said that, this blog is only likely to appeal to fellow writers (and lovely family members who support me no matter what I write about). So I've developed a split personality. This will continue to be my 'about all things writing' blog and >this one< will be devoted to my own writing and related topics.

That way, should I manage to find a sucker publisher willing to take a chance on my novels, future readers will have something to read that they might actually find interesting. Lovely writer friends are more than welcome to follow both, but I don't expect it and won't be offended if they don't.

I see a lot of writers doing this. It's probably a good idea to have one site dedicated to just your writing and your current projects. I've often thought I would invest in a separate website if I were going to be published.

Good luck. Looks good.

Eh, I just figure when I'm ready to blog about my writing then I'll just put it in there somewhere. Just the thought of having TWO blogs makes me get all itchy with hives.

Don't get me wrong, I love my blog, but I'm already maxed out on social media time. That, and I'm not interesting enough for two blogs.

I'll be happy to follow both of yours, though because you are super fascinating!

The second blog is mostly an experiment. I read a couple of interesting articles on blogging and it made me think about this blog and what I was hoping to achieve from it.

I love being in touch with other writers and being part of that supportive network that the campaign challenge is fostering. But when all is said and done, when you do publish, writers are not the ones who will buy the books. They aren't your reader base.

So while I want to keep and nurture the supportive 'they know how I feel' relationship I have with the writer friends I've met,
I also want to plant the seeds for readers who might enjoy my books one day. They aren't going to be interested in some of the topics I write about here. My fellow writers might be, though. Hence the split.

This blog will most likely get the most attention in any case, but the other one will at least be there as a gateway to reach out to potential readers.

At least you're squaring yourself up for the business future, Cheryl! Having just gotten into blogging myself, I've had people suggest to me that I needed to "tone down" my language and what I talk about on my blog/writer site in case it were to offend or bother a potential agent/publisher/whatever. But in the interest of only having the attention span to run one site, I'd hope to have the pride to tell any agent bothered by words to go eat one in the future. Who knows?

I think it's great you're getting a second site up, though! Do you want me to link that on my blog, or do you prefer just having this one?

@Rance either is fine, thanks. I will put some linkys up on the other blog too.
